St. John’s Wort and Depression Remedies

Studies show that when you use St. John’s Wort for depression you might find that you dramatically improve your overall sense of well being and happiness. Maybe you’re struggling with feelings of sadness and a general unhappiness and are looking for a way to get out of your “funk” without having to take prescription medications, but you aren’t sure what you can do.

St. John’s Wort might be just what you’re in need of.

In addition to taking supplements such as St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum), you should start with your overall lifestyle.

Work to change the things that seem to be causing you problems and heartache.

For instance, if you constantly feel bad, but eat unhealthy foods, then there is no better time than right now to work on changing the way you eat so that you can begin to feel better.

If you feel badly because you’re out of shape, then begin to exercise regularly.

Exercise helps to release endorphins that help to fight pain and help us to feel good emotionally, so this might be what you need. You’ll also find that you sleep better when you work out and you might be surprised that getting in shape will have you feeling better about yourself as well and these things can work to ease your depression.

Work to reduce your stress levels through meditation, deep breathing and journal writing.

Many people find that when they are depressed, it’s due to the many stressors in their lives that they feel they cannot control so by eliminating or learning to properly deal with these, you will be well on your way to feeling happier in general.

Sometimes, however, we cannot begin to feel better unless we have enough of the essential brain chemicals that help us to keep our emotions balanced and keep feeling okay about life, stress and situations.

St. John’s Wort contains hyperforin, which is one of those all important brain chemicals that we need to stay emotionally stable. When you choose to use St. John’s Wort for depression, you will find that it boosts your moods by increasing the levels of hyperforin in your brain.

In addition to this chemical, you will also find that it has been found to increase the levels of serotonin and dopamine and help your brain produce more of these essential chemicals on their own.

Plus, St. John’s Wort has been found to be effective and safe to take for depression in most cases, so you can take this supplement day after day without worrying that you’ll suffer from negative side effects.
