Brain Boosting Berries and Their Effects on Your Health
These tiny berries contain a plethora of benefits that have been proven to improve brain and mental health in so many ways. Healthy nutrition plays a big part in our overall health and you may be amazed to learn just how berries can have profound health benefits.

Experts suggest that blueberry intake must be at least one half cup every week or one cup of strawberries. These benefits of eating berries were also well-documented in ACS’ Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

A research conducted in the United Kingdom showed that blueberries have the ability to activate BDNF (brain-derived neuropathic factor) production. In analyzing the strength of several proofs that indicate the anti-aging effects of berries, scientists conducted extensive cellular review of both human and animal studies.
These berries contain flavanoids that are helpful against inflammation and in fighting against the adverse effects of free radicals that negatively impact aging cells of the brain. As a result, the brain will be able to produce new brain cells and enhance its plasticity which is also known to provide an anti-aging effect.
Berries For Improved Brain Functions
These brain boosting effects of berries can be attributed to the ability of its flavanoids such as anthocyanidin to penetrate through the blood and into the tissues of the brain. These anthocyanidins will then reach the hippocampus part of the brain where learning and memory take place. This finding also proves that berries can positively change the manner in which brain neurons communicate with each other.
Berries also contain active compounds that can enhance motor control and cognition.

Berries are also found to be helpful in lowering total cholesterol levels up to 37%.
Eating a cup of berries at least once in every week may also help lower one’s risk of suffering from high blood pressure. These red pigments in berries also improve vision and inhibits the growth of cancer-causing tumors.

Aside from strawberries and blueberries, the list of berry fruits also includes a wide variety of huckleberries, mulberries, raspberries, grapes, cranberries, currants, bilberries and wine berries.

- Dried and fresh berries can be a healthy addition to your salads.
- When fresh berries are not available, you may choose to purchase frozen berries instead.
- Putting berries on your hot and cold cereal can be such a tasty trick.
- Throw in some berries into your morning smoothies.
- Trail mixes are more nutritious when you add some dried berries into it.
- Pureed berries can make your fruit soup even more enjoyable.
