Aging Gracefully without Medications
The route towards aging gracefully, does not require any medications at all. Therefore, before popping that magic anti-aging pill that promises you to look younger, read these tips on how to age gracefully and naturally!
1. Eat small meals and watch your portion intake.
It is better to eat smaller meals and eat more frequently rather than succumb to an eating binge. One way to do this is to divide your meals into five or six sittings in a day. This way, you will be able to spread your meal times and avoid the risk of excess weight gain. As you avoid skipping or eating large meals in one sitting, your metabolism will also be prevented from slowing down.
Eat more of fruits and veggies and stay away from processed meat. Observing healthy eating habits will greatly spare you from obesity, high blood pressure, stroke and other health risks that come with aging.
2. Redefine your exercise regimen.
For people who want to age gracefully, exercise is to be viewed as a must. It is not something you do when you feel like it. As you grow older you need to spend more time for physical activities and redefine exercise. Exercise does not have to mean spending a few hours in the gym.
Any movement should contribute towards your exercise regimen. Spend time tending to your own garden and any other physical activities. Be consistent with your exercise regimen. Skipping exercises are like skipping your meals – these habits will not do anything to make you stay young and healthy.
3. Find your purpose by reaching out to other people.
Living life in seclusion will no doubt cut off several years off anyone’s age. However, the more you try to be in contact with other people especially with those who are in need will help you find more meaning in your life. Take the time to join charitable groups and be a volunteer. As you spend more time for social works you will realize that your physical and cognitive skills will also improve.
Giving inspiration to other people is also tantamount to adding more inspiration to your own life too. Spending time with others and interacting is also excellent for warding off dementia…so get socializing!
4. Seek adventure and surround yourself with younger people.
If you want to age gracefully allow yourself to be surrounded with younger people. Invite your grandchildren and your own grown children to do activities with. As you continue to nurture your friendship with younger people you will certainly feel younger inside and out.
Younger people, love listening to the ‘oldies’ so share your wisdom and in turn they will share their love of life! You will be able to keep your vitality and become more enthusiastic about your own life.
5. Keep that positive attitude always.
Some people dread the thought of growing old. This is because they don’t want to get wrinkles that tell their age. This makes many take themselves off to beauty clinics to remove their facial signs of aging. What they fail to realize is that growing old is such a wonderful privilege being denied to many.
Aging must be viewed positively regardless of your race, gender or social status in life. Your life begins today! Keeping your mind and body healthy is a must if you want to age gracefully. Stick to healthy habits because turning back the clock is indeed possible!
