Protect Yourself Against Yeast Infection

Yeast infection is a skin condition that millions of women are going to experience at least once in their lives. This is most common in the form of vaginal candidiasis, which is the inflammation of the vagina due to fungal infection. No woman is completely safe from yeast infection because it can happen to anyone, regardless of age.

Most cases of vaginal yeast infection occur because of the imbalance in the body’s bacteria levels. Our bodies contain healthy bacteria like lactobacilli, which keep us protected from infection-causing fungus. When we don’t have enough of these healthy bacteria, yeast is likely to develop on various parts of the body.

Where Does Yeast Infection Come From?

Obviously, the infection develops from the presence of yeast or fungus in the body, but where does the yeast itself come from? Sometimes, it may develop after sustaining an internal vaginal injury but the more frequent causes are pregnancy, diabetes and the use of oral contraceptives.

Typical signs of vaginal yeast infection are constant itching and burning around the vaginal opening, the presence of a yellowish-white discharge and redness and irritation in the vaginal area. These signs usually make their first appearance about a week prior to the start of the menstrual cycle.

As soon as you notice the first symptoms of fungal infection, it is important that you seek treatment right away in order to prevent your condition from worsening. There are many natural treatments that will work very well. If you are pregnant or if you are also experiencing fever and abdominal pain or if urinating and sexual intercourse becomes very painful, it is advisable to consult with your doctor in case there is something more serious. Your doctor will give you a thorough vaginal exam to get an accurate diagnosis of your infection, as well as to determine the corresponding treatment.

How Can Yeast Infection Be Prevented?

It is still much better to prevent the infection from happening in the first place, rather than treating when you have one. Fortunately, you can easily do this using simple precautions, such as wearing loose cotton underwear and staying away from scented feminine products.

It will also help a lot if you cut down on fatty and sugary foods and instead eat a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. You should also make a habit of wiping from front to back after using the toilet to prevent the spreading of bacteria from the anus. When you have yeast infection, you should use sanitary pads instead of tampons, particularly if there is severe irritation in the vaginal opening.

There are also natural homeopathic remedies for a Candida overgrowth, that can also prevent and treat infections.
